the RAIN challenge


RAIN uses research and “best practices” gathered over the past 50 years to create state-of-the-art learning experiences for American Indians. RAIN is establishing new standards of education for children and adults and is sharing this information through publications, journals and presentations.

Core elements to be included in the design

1.    Indigenous Health and Human Development:
2.    Housing
3.    Intertribal Cultural Centers

Additional elements that may be included based on
tribal size or in future additions

4.    Tribal Businesses
5.    Rehabilitative Centers
6.    Schooling and College Prefatory Academy
7.    Utah Indian Museum (SLC location)
8.    Utah American Indian Discovery and Visitors Center (Zion National Park)

Design Parameters

A.    Designs are to be based on a circle (include references) which is considered
sacred in American Indian culture.
B.    Ability to expand the initial design phase and build out should be included
in the design.
C.    Components of construction should be sustainable, eco – friendly, and
budget friendly.
D.    Components of construction should also have the ability to be replaced with
ease for repairs, upgrades or maintenance.
